Don't Believe Everything AI Says About You

I got into an argument with an AI the other day.

An AI tool told me I had "spiritual bypassing." That I was living too much in my head and not enough in action. It stung. I felt defensive.

So I went to another AI. One that knew more about my actual life. And that AI said, "Actually, you've done quite a lot. Here's the evidence."

Then I just sat there, watching two AIs disagree about me. Honestly, pretty surreal. I cared enough about what an AI thought of me to go seek a second opinion. That's kind of funny when you think about it.

But the bigger thing I noticed was about empathy. That first AI didn't know my story. It made a sweeping judgment without context. And that kind of confidence without understanding? We do it to each other all the time.

In tech, we get assessed constantly. Performance reviews, peer feedback, 360s. Sometimes the feedback lands. Sometimes it's someone making a judgment from one data point.

The skill isn't ignoring all feedback. It's learning which voices actually know your story.

Don't believe everything AI says about you. And maybe don't believe everything people say about you either.

Don't believe everything AI says about you.

Try this: the next time someone gives you feedback that stings, pause. Ask yourself: does this person actually know my full story?
