When I was younger, I had a wish, a dream, that someday I would ride my bike to visit all the streets in my city, both the little ones and the bigger ones.
That was before I went to college. Once I started college, I was busy with studying and playing, so I didn't do anything about it.
Then, when I came to the United States, it was a whole new world to adjust to. Again, the dream was delayed, or even forgotten. I guess because I was in Arizona, biking was just too hot.
When I started working, I actually bought a bike. But I rode it so much that first day that I was completely burned out. I never touched it again, and the bike eventually got sold after I moved to California.
Recently I thought about this dream: finding a second-hand, foldable bike. I started riding through the little trails and streets near me, and I brought these really pretty-sounding wind chimes with me.
As I was riding, I felt the wind blowing on my face. Going through different streets, I saw so many different trees and the sunset on the houses. I started to remember why I had that dream many years ago.
I am happy I finally decided to do it. Was it late? Yeah, probably after 20 years. But of course it is never too late.
That ride brought something back to life in me.
I know all of us must have something we really wanted to do when we were young, but we never got a chance to do it. Those unlived dreams get stuck in us. They become a regret, a sense of incompleteness.
Most importantly, if we don't do it, we never get to experience how the soft wind blows over your face, and the freedom of being on the road.
